Today's walk in one word: Amazing!! After a wonderful breakfast we immediately went uphill passing a small lake and an abandoned military base. From there the trail zigzagged down a valley to Rifugio Gran Fanes (closed) where horses and cows roamed freely. The views from the trail were just spectacular, walking between the high mountain walls of Sas del Bec.
At the junction for Forcella di Lech a sign was posted that the main AV1 trail was closed due a major avalanche, so we took the alternative route to Capanna Alpina, which included a great viewpoint before dropping steeply towards the Rifugio, where we had our usual well deserved coffee and apple pie!
After the coffee it was time for some serious climbing to Rifugio Scotoni, situated on a wonderful meadow and a great place for lunch! Back on the trail we followed the twisty and steep trail up to Lake Lagacio where we met up with the main AV1 trail again. From here it's a slow but steady walk through large snow areas to Forcella Lagazuoi with amazing views of the surrounding mountains. The last section to our destination of the day was up and along a very steep cliff, going through a snow field arriving at Rifugio Lagazuoi and walking the final 15 minutes to the summit.
This place is truly "amazing" and must be enjoyed by taking it all in very slowly!!
