Visiting Diana and Jorge in their new home in Reno Nevada.

As part  of a business trip to LA, I decided it would be a great opportunity to visit Diana and Jorge in their new hoe in Reno Nevada, and spend a week there to explore the hills around that city.

The flight from LA to Reno was short, but very nice, being able to see the Sierras and Half Dome and El Capitan in Yosemite National Park from the plane. While landing at the airport in Reno you can see all the surrounding mountains covered in snow.  I can see now why Diana and Jorge picked this spot for their retirement.  Endless opportunities to hike!!

Getting out of the airport is easy, with NO crowds and NO traffic.  What a difference with LAX.  It was great to see Jorge, who picked me up from the airport.  The drive to their apartment was quick where Diana was waiting for us.  After the tour of the apartment, which is very spacious and full of comfort.  We drove into Reno for an early dinner.  By the time we got back to the apartment it started to get very sleepy, and could not keep my eyes open during the movie "Dirtbag"", which is an interesting movie about an eccentric mountain climber.  When the movie was over I went to bed for a good night's rest.

The following morning, I woke up refreshed, and we went for a wonderful breakfast at the "Hungry Bear".  After having my fill of coffee and eggs, we drove back to the apartment to get our gear and do a "warm-up" hike, so I could get my hiking legs back.  The hike was very nice, starting out by going up a canyon.  about half way op the canyon we took a short detour to a vehicle that had crashed down the ridge way above us into the canyon.  Obviously there was not much left of the vehicle.  Back on the main trail, we climbed out of the canyon from where we had some great views of the higher mountains around us.  We decided to climb over a number of "bumps", making a loop back to the starting point.  This was a lot of fun, and not very difficult, so at the end I felt good having done the 4.5 mile hike with a 1,200 foot gain.

Back at the apartment, we had some sandwiches for lunch, and after a little while Jorge wanted to show me some wild horses, so we drove across town, behind the airport where there is an aero where the horses hang out.  Even though the horses are wild, they were quite tame and many slowly walked over to us in the hope we would have some food for them.  The horses roam around and through a very nice neighborhood, leaving mountains of smelly horse dung for the owners to clean up.

From there, we drove to a small area where we took a short walk to very colorful rocks and sandstone.  Diana and Jorge had hiked through this area before, and really enjoyed it.

Driving back to the apartment we enjoyed a beautiful sunset.  In the evening we watched movie called Jo Jo Rabbit, which has an interesting twist on Germany during World War II.
