Drove this morning to the town of Onyx on Hwy 178, CA to hike up Onyx Peak #2. It's a short, but steep hike up the wide ridge crossing over to a saddle on the left of an area of large boulders. Turns out I had to climb over and around these boulders before reaching the final climb up the ridge to where it splits. Taking the left ridge I hiked up to the summit, which had great views of Nichols Peak and Heald Peak.
After signing the register, I dropped down the wide ridge, instead of clambering over the large boulders the way I had come up. The hike up Onyx is about 4 miles round trip with 2,300 feet of gain, which took 4 hours.
